Automatically Geotag Video – Video GeoTagger Lets you easily combine any GPS log and video to automatically synchronize the video file with a GPS track with just a few clicks on the map.

Manually Geotag Video – No GPS log file? No Problem! Just select as many points along the map as you want for points of interest you want to geotag in the video. Video Geotagger does the rest and will create geotagged video files! You can even geotag digitized historical video for documentaries and other location-based projects.

Click-on-Map Video Playback – Video GeoTagger is also a free interactive geospatial video viewer. Open any properly geotagged video for playback using the same professional Esri mapping technology used by organizations across the globe.

GPS Data Displays – Once video is properly geotagged, Video GeoTagger offers options for reviewing GPS and other data elements such as Latitude/Longitude, Altitude, Heading, Speed and UTC Time for any point during the video recording.

Before you install Video GeoTagger, verify your system meets these hardware and software requirements:

Downloading the Software

Download and installation procedures are the same for all versions of Video GeoTagger.

The download link for the software is within the email sent to the email address entered in the request form. Click the link to be directed to the version of the software that you requested and/or purchased.

NOTE: Some web browsers may not recognize Video GeoTagger and often flag it as dangerous.

Do not worry, Video GeoTagger is safe! It has even been awarded Softpedia’s prestigious “100% Clean Download” status (see here).

Select Accept, Allow, or Continue.

Installing the Software

1. Double-click the setup.exe file in the extracted (unzipped) Video GeoTagger folder.

IMPORTANT! If you are running Windows 8 and 10, you may encounter a security warning. Select Run or More Info > Run Anyway… to continue.

2. Select Next once the Video GeoTagger installation wizard launches.

3. Read the License Agreement and click I Agree to accept the terms of the License Agreement.

4. Click Next. We recommend you keep the default Installation Folder. You also have the option of allowing just yourself or anyone using the PC to access Video GeoTagger.

5. Click Next to confirm the installation.

6. The software will start the installation on your PC.

NOTE: You may be prompted to allows this application to make changes. Select Yes.

7. Software Installation of Video GeoTagger is now complete. Check the box to launch the Remote GeoSystems Codec Installer. Then click Close.

NOTE: You need to have an active Internet connection to complete your one-time registration.

1. When you launch Video GeoTagger for the first time, the software prompts you to enter your software license key. To obtain a new license key for FREE edition, click the Register Now button. A free license key will be emailed to you

2. Enter the license code you received via email into License Code box. Select I Accept then click Continue to agree to the End User License.

PRO TRIAL USERS: If you are doing a 7-day trial of Video GeoTagger PRO edition, be aware this screen will open each time you launch the software. Simply click Continue to keep using the software during your trial period.

3. In a few seconds, you should receive confirmation that your software has been successfully registered.

NOTE: This manual covers the FREE & PRO editions of Video GeoTagger. Features only available in PRO will be tagged (PRO only). You may also refer to the feature comparison.

Once you launch the software, the application appears by default with the Video Viewer, Photo Viewer, and Live Stream Viewer in the top-left corner, the Media Browser, Layer Control (PRO only) , Map Navigation, GeoTagger in the bottom-left corner, and the Map Viewer on the right side. There is also a Menu Bar across the top.

NOTE: This is the layout Video GeoTagger has by default. All of the panels can be rearranged within the program according user preference and then saved under the File menu. See below for more information.

Video Viewer Panel

The Video Viewer panel allows you to play and control the video with and without a synchronized GPS data.

• The arrows advance the video forward or backward. How far or little depends on the time entered in the Set Video Skip Forward/Back Time.
• While the video plays, the GPS information shows the spatial track.
• Speed is measured in knots.

Media Browser Panel

 

The Media Browser panel shows loaded videos as items, and by right-clicking on the items you are provided a context-menu for additional options.

Map Viewer Panel

This panel displays a variety of “point” and “path” data from geospatial video to SHP files, using Esri’s popular mapping technologies to provide base maps.

Layer Control Panel (PRO only)

The Layer Control panel provides options for adding additional map data layers. Even if you are not traditionally an Esri ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap user, you can leverage background maps, raster imagery and stream online and map server data produced by GIS experts in your organization. To hide and show layers click the checkbox to the desired setting.

Map Navigation Panel

The Map Navigation panel gives you the option to enter Latitude/Longitude coordinates to “jump” to a specific location in the Map Viewer.

GeoTagger Panel

The GeoTagger panel offers the controls for geotagging videos. Effectively using the GeoTagger Panel is covered later in this manual.

Video Viewer Tab

The Video Viewer allows you to play and control videos-with or without synchronized GPS data…

• The arrows advance the video forward or backward. How far or little depends on the time entered in the Set Video Skip Forward/Back Time.

Photo Viewer Tab (PRO Only)

The Photo Viewer provides options to view and edit photos. A collection of icons, located on the Photo Viewer window, provide shortcuts to commonly used commands.

NOTE: The Photo Viewer tab will not appear in the Video GeoTagger interface unless a image has been captured from a video. This function is not available in the FREE version.

YouTube Player Tab

The YouTube Player provides access to common YouTube functionality (Play, Volume, Video Scrubbing, Closed Captioning, Settings) and includes the option to play a video directly from the Video GeoTagger interface or from YouTube itself. Videos available for YouTube playback need to be configured using options provided under the Online menu.

Right-clicking in the Media Browser will give you a contextual menu with additional options to manipulate and work with the videos you have loaded into the program.

Show Detail:

Clicking this button will cause the icons for all media files located in the Media Browser to extend and show the full file name and the date and time of its creation.

Zoom To:

Use the Zoom to… function when you are trying to find the Map Viewer location that corresponds to the video and/or GPS track.

Fit All Media in Map:

This function places brings all the files in the Media Browser on the same map extent.

Jump to Time (PRO Only):

Use the Jump to Time function when you are trying to find a section of the video that corresponds to some other data type, such as data from a gas leak detection alert. In these cases, the geoDVR and leak detection system may be logging the same GPS data stream. After you have selected Jump to Time, a screen pops up to allow you to input the Hour, Minutes and Seconds and click the Jump to Time button to go to this same time in the corresponding video.

Remove Item:

This will remove the item you have right-clicked on.

NOTE: There will be no confirmation for the removal.

Browse Waypoints:

NOTE: This option only appears if there are way points in the file.

The Browse Waypoints function is an alternative way to browse all of the way points associated with the video. Right-click the ‘Video” icon in the Media Browser and select Browse Waypoints. Once selected, all of the way points associated with the video will appear in the Waypoint Browser.

Reverse Latitude/Longitude:

Reverses Latitude and Longitude coordinates.

Save Track as RGPS (FREE Edition) File:

If you want to use only the GPS data, this will export a .RGPS file. After you have selected this option, a File Explorer window will open asking where you would like to save the RGPS File.

NOTE: This option only appears if there are continuous GPS points in the file.

NOTE: A .RGPS file (Remote Geo GPS) is Remote GeoSystems‘ encrypted GPS format that is available in Video GeoTagger FREE.

Extract Waypoints as GPX File:

NOTE: This option only appears if you there are way points in the video file you loaded to the Media Browser.

The Extract Waypoints as GPX File creates a .GPX from the way points associated with the video file you loaded into the Media Browser. After you have selected Extract Waypoints as GPX File, a File Explorer window will open asking you where you would like to save the GPX File.

Save Track as GPX (PRO Edition) File:

If you want to use only the GPS data, this option will export a .GPX file. After selecting this option a File Explorer window will open asking you where you would like to save the GPX file.

Save Track as CSV (PRO Edition) File:

If you want to use only the GPS data, this option will export a .CSV file. After selecting this option a File Explorer window will open asking you where you would like to the save the CSV file.

Save Track as KML (PRO Edition) File:

If you want to use only the GPS data, this option will export a .KML file. After selecting this option a File Explorer window will open asking you where you would like to save the KML file.

View Info:

Shows the information about the video or photo.

Copy Info:

Copies video info to the clipboard.

Do Not Show on Map:

Hides the selected item so that it isn’t visible on the Map Viewer.

Remove GeoTagging (GPS log) from Media:

Strips out all geotagged GPS data from the selected piece of media within the Media Browser.

Delete from YouTube Downloads (Only Present for YouTube Videos Loaded Into the Media Browser):

Removes the video from being associated with your account so that it no longer downloads when the program retrieves any associated YouTube videos.

Upload to YouTube:

Uploads selected video to YouTube

NOTE: You must have valid YouTube credentials saved to Video GeoTagger in order for this function to work. This can be done through the Online menu.

Live Stream Video (PRO Edition):

Allows you to live stream the selected video to external devices capable of viewing a live video stream.

Professional Version Only

Change Base Layer:

Changing the Base Layer allows you to easily use other commonly-used map tile sets, such as satellite imagery or oceanic tiles, rather than the default World Street Maps layer.

The available Base Layers are:

• World Street Maps (default) – Familiar street map view
• Imagery – Satellite imagery view
• Topo – Topographic features view
• Ocean – Oceanic features view

Add New Layer:

Allows you to apply a new layer of data to the Video GeoTagger interface you are working with. You can choose between three (3) types of layers. Tiled (most common layer type and set as default), Feature, or Dynamic.

Add Boreal Data:

Allows you to apply a layer of boreal data to the Video GeoTagger interface you are working with. Selecting this option opens a File Explorer window that will allow you to navigate to the file you wish to add.

Add Raster/Shapefile:

Allows you to apply a Raster or Shapefile to the Video GeoTagger interface you are working with.

Remove Selected Layer:

Removes the selected layer from the GeoTagger Layer Control tab and the Video GeoTagger interface.

Map Navigation allows you to move to GPS coordinates on the map in Video GeoTagger. This can be useful if, for example, you are trying to find an important GPS location received from a customer or manager.

To use Map Navigation:
1. Click on the Map Navigation tab

2. Click on either the World View or USA View button.

3. Enter the coordinates you wish to view in the Latitude or Longitude boxes.

4. Click on Pan to Location button and the map will center on the coordinates you entered.

The GeoTagger Panel is the starting point for Automatic and Manual Geotagging and its functionality will be covered in the Automatic and Manual Video Geotagging sections below.

The menu bar at the top offers various primary menu’s which will be covered in further detail: File, Options, Geotag, Map (PRO version only), Online, Dashboard, and Help.

Open Video:

Select this menu item to navigate to your video. If your video has a GPS companion file within the same folder with the same file name as the video, or if you recorded your video with the geoDVR, then your video automatically loads and zooms to the recorded location on the background map.

Open Video with Embedded GPS (PRO Version Only):

Opens a sub-menu to open various videos encoded with Embedded GPS.

MISB FMV – TS Streams with encoded MISB data/Target Location Data.

DJI SRT Video – Data embedded within certain DJI models video’s Closed Captioning.

DJI Go Log File – Text file produced by the DJI Go App on Android or iOS.

Open Sony Video – Sony specific GPS data.

Open GoPro Video – GoPro specific GPS data.

Open Remote Geo geoDVR Whisper Video – Videos recorded by a RemoteGeo geoDVR device with encoded Whisper data

Open Video for Geotagging:

Select this menu item to load a video and GPS file separately for geotagging.

Close All Media…

Closed all opened media items that are in the Media Browser.

Save Current Layout & Settings as Default:

This menu option lets you set the current layout and selected options as the Default, which the software will use when you open Video GeoTagger in the future.

Advanced Settings & Window Positioning:

• Load Saved Layout Settings: Select this menu to restore your custom Default Layout.
• Reset Settings to Factory Default: Select this setting to restore the panel layout and all settings to Factory Default.

Export Waypoint Data

Note: This menu option only appears if you have way-point data in your video.

This menu option will let you export and save a CSV spreadsheet of way-point data including UTC Time, Latitude, Longitude, Trigger Number & Audio File Name. This file can then be opened in any program that can handle .CSV files, such as Microsoft Excel.

Exit

Closes the Video GeoTagger program.

MISB Settings:

Settings for videos with MISB/KLV meta-data

Show Target Location by Default: Shows the Target Location on the map, if available.

Show Camera Footprint by Default: Shows the Camera Footprint on the map, if it can be determined.

Enable Audio/Video Chaining:

Jumps from one video track to the next in sequential order when you load more than one “already-geotagged” video clip. The ideal scenario fro this is when playing back videos that were recorded at a preset time or size limit from the Remote GeoSystems geoDVR or other 3rd-party GPS-enabled DVRs. This also works well for several video clips recorded from a single drone flight.

Maintain Video Aspect Ratio:

Check this menu item if you want the video aspect ratio to remain consistent when you move and resize the video panel. It is recommended to leave this option checked.

Limit GPS Frequency to 1 Hz:

Check this menu item if you logged video with a higher GPS frequency and want to “de-cluster” the GPS points along a path. It is recommended to leave this option checked.

Play on Click Settings:

Check this menu item if you want videos to begin playing form the point you click on the map. By default, Pause Video At Click Location is checked.

Play Media at Click Location:

Video will continue playing after you click on a map location.

Pause Media at Click Location:

Video will pause when you click on a map location.

Pan to Media When Selected:

Check this menu item if you want the map to “pan” to the start location of the video or point location of the photo or annotation. It is recommended to leave this option checked.

Always Ask for GPS Companion File:

Check this menu item if you want Video GeoTagger to always ask which GPS companion file you would like to use with the video. The default is unchecked which means the application attempts to identify companion files with the same name as the video. if Video GeoTagger does not see a GPS companion file, it asks you to select a corresponding companion file. Selecting this option is recommended if your GPS companion files usually have a different name than the corresponding video file.

Warn On Missing Timecodes:

Check this menu item if you want Video GeoTagger to show a warning message if there are no time-codes detected in the video’s companion file.

NOTE: By default, this option is NOT checked.

If unchecked, Video GeoTagger automatically interpolates the time-codes. This may cause significant differences between the video position and the position on the map.

Check for Companion File Time Mismatch:

Check this menu item if you want Video GeoTagger to compare the length of the video to the length of the GPS points making up the video track.

• Always: When checked, the length of the video is always compared to the length of the video track. A warning message displays if the length is not within a tolerance.
• Only When Edits Aren’t Possible: When checked, the length of the video is checked against the length of the video track only if the Video GeoTagger algorithm determines that the video track has not been edited.
• Never: When checked, the video length is not checked against the video track length. Checking this option is not recommended unless video track editing has occurred and you are aware that the video’s length does not match the GPS track length.

Change Video Decoder:

Allows you to change the video decoder used by the program between VLC and Windows Media Player.

Turn Off Video Hardware Acceleration:

Select this menu item if you have an older computer or if you are running software that is very demanding on graphics and system resources. LineVision consumes a lot of resources when playing videos,you can improve the performance of your computer by leaving this menu item checked.

Set Video Skip Forward/Back Time:

Select this menu item if you want to set the frame rate to skip forward and backward in your videos.

Auto Adjust Map for Current Video Position:

Select this menu item if you want the map to automatically pan and re-center itself when the current video position cursor (yellow balloon) moves off the screen.

Change Base Layer:

Selecting this item will open a dialog allowing you to change the Base Layer (in other words, what type of map is shown in the Map Viewer panel). the default base layer is the World Street Map, but Satellite Imagery, Topographic, and Ocean maps are also available.

NOTE: In PRO edition, this option is found under the Map menu instead of Options menu.

Photo GeoTagging (PRO Only):

GeoTag Photos in Batch: Allows you to geotag multiple photos contained in a folder with an associated GPS log file.

Launch Video GeoTagger:

This menu brings the GeoTagger tab to the front.

Parse DJI Log File:

This menu item provides the option to take the DJI brand drone flight record text file and turn into a format that Video GeoTagger can use to geotag video recording segments from the UAV flight.

Parse GPS from DJI Closed Captioning (PRO Only):

This option will parse GPS data for certain DJI UAV models that contain GPS data within their closed captioning.

Extracts relevant GPS data from from MISB supported video files.

Extract GPS From GoPro Video:

Extracts relevant GPS data from GoPro supported video files.

PRO Edition Only

NOTE: The Map menu and related functions are only available with Video GeoTagger PRO edition

Current Position Icon:

Allows you to change the icon used in the Map Viewer Panel to demonstrate the current position of the video. This icon can be the standard yellow cross-hairs, a helicopter, a vehicle, a boat, a bike, a motorcycle, or a person. You can also change change the size of the icon through this menu.

GPS Point Info Box Display Options:

Allows you to decide to what degree GPS Point Info is shown.

Always Show Info – always shows GPS point info

Hide if MISB/Camera Target is Present – Hides GPS point info if alternative MISB data is available

Never Show Info – Hides all GPS point info

Set to United States View:

Selecting this menu item will default the Map Viewer Panel to center on the United States when you launch Video GeoTagger PRO.

Set to World View:

Selecting this menu item will default the Map Viewer Panel to center on a Global View when you launch Video GeoTagger PRO.

Change Base Layer:

Selecting this item will open a dialog allowing you to change the Base Layer (in other words, what type of map is shown in the Map Viewer panel). The default base layer is the World Street Map, but Satellite Imagery, Topographic, and Ocean maps are also available.

Add Layer:

Selecting this menu item launches the Add Layer window where you will have the option to add a layer of local data or streaming data, such as from an organization’s ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Online account.

You will need to enter a name, select Layer Type, and enter the path or URL to the layer.

Set Waypoint/GPS Point File Size:

Selecting this menu item will let you define the Video Track Point Diameter and Waypoint Diameter in terms of pixels.

Add Shapefile:

Selecting this menu item allows you to load an Esri-compatible Shapefile as a map layer. You must enter a name and browse to the Shapefile. File type SHP is accepted.

Add Raster:

Selecting this menu item allows you to load an Esri-compatible raster imagery file as a map layer. You must enter a name and browse to the raster file. File types BMP, PNG, SID, and TIF are accepted.

Load KML/KMZ File:

Select this menu item if you want to load geographic data in a KML/KMZ format. For example, data might include pipeline leak-detection sensor data, utility & pipeline asset network, patrol way-points, or vector & imagery data.

NOTE: KML/KMZ files imported into Video GeoTagger PRO may not display all the data elements visible in LineVision Google Earth.

Load Boreal KML/KMZ File:

Select this menu item if you want to load geographic data in a Boreal KML/KMZ format.

Load Custom KML/KMZ File:

Select this menu item if you want to load geographic data in a Custom KML/KMZ format.

Enter Esri ArcGIS Runtime License:

Please enter your Esri Runtime License if applicable.

Reset Esri ArcGIS Runtime License:

Selecting this menu item will delete the previously entered Esri Runtime License and allow you to enter a new one.

Enter/Update Google API Key:

Opens a dialogue box that allows you to enter whatever the latest Google API Key you have is.

Authenticate with Esri OAuth:

Use your ArcGIS Application ID and Application Secret to access your secure ArcGIS resources.

Use Accelerated Map Display:

Uses hardware acceleration to display the map.

IMPORTANT! Not all graphics cards can support this option and may cause unexpected errors. With graphics cards that do support this option, it may cause longer map loading times.

Enable Performance Handling:

The Enable Performance Handling function will reduce the number of GPS points based on zoom level in order to optimize performance. If you wish to see all of the GPS points, make sure you un-check Enable Performance Handling.

NOTE: Un-checking Enable Performance Handling may cause a drop in the performance of Video GeoTagger PRO.

Upload to YouTube:

Uploads the selected video to YouTube.

Switch YouTube Login Credentials:

Changes the YouTube account you are logged into.

View Saved YouTube Login Credentials:

Views the current YouTube account you are logged into.

Delete Saved YouTube Login Credentials:

Removes the saved YouTube login credentials and logs you out of the current account.

Retrieve YouTube Videos:

Retrieves the YouTube videos associated with the YouTube account you have tied to LineVision and loads them into the Media Browser.

Switch Saved LineVision Online Login Credentials:

Changes the LineVision Online credentials you are logged into.

View Saved LineVision Online Login Credentials:

Views the LineVision Online credentials you have saved to the program.

Delete Saved LineVision Online Login Credentials:

Logs you out of LineVision Online and removes the stored credentials.

Change LineVision Online Password:

Changes your account password for the LineVision account you are logged in to.

Automatically Retrieve YouTube Videos:

Selected by default. When LineVision is started, it will automatically retrieve your YouTube videos if this option is checked.

Connect to Live Network/Internet Video Stream

Connects the Video GeoTagger program to a live streamed video.

Show Virtual Dashboard:

This item opens a dashboard near the bottom of the Map Viewer panel with virtual navigation instruments. The information is pulled from the GPS companion file, including the Heading, Speed measured in MPH (Miles Per Hour) and KPH (Knots Per Hour), UTC Date and Time, and Altitude.

Video GeoTagger FREE/PRO Quick Start Video:

When you select this menu item, it opens a web browser and takes you to the Video GeoTagger YouTube channel where quick start videos are located. An Internet connection is required to use this function.

Video GeoTagger FREE/PRO User Manual:

When you select this menu item, it opens a web browser and takes you to the Video Geotagger Online User Manual. An Internet connection is required to use this function.

Video GeoTagger FREE/PRO Support Forum:

When you select this menu item, it opens a web browser and takes you to the Video GeoTagger official Product Support and User Forum. An Internet connection is required to use this function.

Email Program Logs:

Select this menu item to report any errors should they occur while using Video GeoTagger. A window pops up and asks you for your information. The application launches a window to submit the program log.

Remote Geo Corporate Website:

Select this menu item to determine your Video GeoTagger software build/version number. Remote GeoSystems technical support may ask for this number when resolving support issues.

Video GeoTagger serves two primary purposes; as a revolutionary new tool to automatically or manually geotag video, and a simple but powerful geospatial video viewer for videos already synchronized with GPS tracks (which you can also create with Video GeoTagger).

If you wish to use Video GeoTagger to automatically geotag video (usually the easiest and more consistent method if you have an associated GPS log file, such as a .GPX file), then you will want to be sure you turn on your GPS logging before you start your video camera and you stop your GPS log file after you stop your video camera. If you do that it should be easy to geotag any digital video.

If you wish to use Video GeoTagger to manually geotag video, then load a video and start right-clicking on the map to add you GPS points associated with video frames!

In addition to providing an easy way to geotag videos, Video GeoTagger also offers map-based playback and of previously geotagged video files. This could be videos previously geotagged with Video GeoTagger, or from a video camera with GPS like a GoPro or DJI drone camera or specialized professional geospatial DVRs like our geoDVR.

To open and view a video that has already been geotagged simply following the guide to video viewing listed above.

Video GeoTagger provides the ability to automatically geotag video that has some kind of GPS data log file available to reference. The GPS data does not have to be from the same time period the video was collected, or technically even the same place, nor the same length in time as the video.

For automatic geotagging, ideally you would keep GPS log(s) that are longer in time than the video recording segments, which helps insure there is plenty of GPS data to accurately geotag your video. You can see an extreme example of this is in the snowboarding video below where the GPS is logging throughout the afternoon and the snowboarder only turns the video camera on just for the downhill runs. In this example, he loads the hour and a half GPS log file but only geotags a video clip for one of the runs.

Most GPS devices and smartphone apps will create a GPS log in GPX file formats, but Video GeoTagger also supports all of the following GPS log file formats.

• GPX
• CSV
• KML
• XML
• SRT (some DJI UAV models)
• DJI Drone Flight Logs (encrypted text file)

To automatically tag your video:

1. Launch Video GeoTagger functionality by either 1) selecting the Geotag menu at the top > Launch Video GeoTagger or by 2) clicking on the GeoTagger panel tab.

2. Select the video you want to geotag by clicking the Browse button to find your video file.

3. Select the GPS data file you would like to sync the video with by clicking the Browse button to load the GPS data file.

4. Now click Load for Geotagging. You will see the video gets loaded to the Video Viewer and the GPS track is presented in the Map Viewer.

5. Find an obvious known visual place of reference in the video and then find that same corresponding place on the GPS track on the map.

NOTE: Often users will associate the first frame in the video with a point on the GPS track on the map (as in these screenshot examples). However it you can associate any frame in the video with its corresponding place on the GPS track, and Video GeoTagger will calculate the appropriate distance in the GPS log before and after the video frame (as in the snowboarding video in the beginning of this section.)

6. With video paused at the place selected above, right-click on the corresponding GPS point that corresponds to the location seen in the video frame, then select Geotag Video Here.

7. Now there will be a portion of the GPS track highlighted in orange that will show the section of GPS that will be synchronized with the video. If you are happy that this highlighted GPS track represents the “Continuous Location” of where the video was captured, then click Geotag Video.

8.  After clicking Geotag Video button, only the new shorted GPS track (now in red) is shown and a “Video Successfully Geotagged” message box appears letting you know the new (selected) GPS data has been associated with the video allowing for geospatial playback.

9. The video is now geotagged and can be played back “geospatially” where users can click on any of the GPS points and/or track and the “Video Location Indicator” is following the approximate path the camera traveled.

Video GeoTagger allows you to manually geotag videos that do not have any GPS file logs to reference. With Manual GeoTagging a user can click any number of points on a map to provide location points at any number of intervals that correspond to location content in a video frame.

To Manually GeoTag a Video:

1. Launch Video GeoTagger functionality by either 1) selecting the GeoTag menu at the top > Launch Video GeoTagger or by 2) clicking on the GeoTagger Panel tab.

2. Select the video you want to geotag by clicking on the Browse button for video. Once the video is loaded to click the Load for Geotagging.

3. When no GPS content is detected, a message box appears notifying the user they are entering Manual GeoTagging mode and some basic instruction on how to do so.

4. OPTIONAL STEP (PRO only) While not necessary, if using Video GeoTagger PRO the Layer Control panel lets you add more map data layers to give more details on the map for referencing video frame(s) locations to places on the maps. In this example we will add aerial/satellite imagery so that we can better identify the individual windmills on the map.

5. We zoom into the map, and in this case, use the aerial/satellite imagery to find and set a GPS start point to correspond to the location of the image for the first frame of video in our example. Once you have identified the your video’s start point in the Map Viewer, right-click on that starting point and Select Manually Add Start Point.

NOTE: You now have the option of either 1) adding points throughout your video until you get to the end, or 2) select your end point and then add points in between the start and end points to fill out your manual GPS track. In the example here, we will be using option 1), adding points throughout the video until we get to the end of our video.

NOTE: If you need to move to the end of your video to identify the last frame end location, simply move the video scrubber to the end of the video.

6.  User will typically then let the video play for an amount of time, pause the video, right-click a point corresponding to the location of the current frame of video in view and then select Manually Add Point Here at 00:00:00.

NOTE: Please be aware that where 00:00:00 shows, the time changes as you move through the video.

7. Repeat the process in step 6 above to add additional GPS points that correspond with the location of the current frame of video in view.

8. Once we have added all the points we want an get to the end of our video, now we select Manually Add End Point.

9. Now select GeoTag Video and the GPS points on the map turn red.

IMPORTANT! A message indicating the GPS data was saved appears with a path to where your video and new GPX companion file are located. In the folder with your video, you now have a GPX file that contains the GPS data. DO NOT throw this file away or you have to re-tag your video.

NOTE: Only the Professional Edition of Video GeoTagger supports the creation and viewing of annotations.

To create an annotation or note on the map simply use your mouse to right-click on the desired location on the map and then select Add Annotation.

The Add Annotation window will appear where you can enter notes and even add additional photo images, documents and other files related to the site.

NOTE: You should be able to attach virtually any document or file format type to the map location. However, you must have a native program for that document already installed on the same PC you wish to open or modify the document or file.

Once you click the OK button, a purple dot will appear on the map marking your annotation on the map.

There are two ways to view Annotations:

The first way is to simply click the purple dot on the map or the icon in the Media Browser to bring up the Annotation viewer window. Once in this window, you have the option to Edit Note, Add/View/Delete Image(s), and Add/Open/Delete Document(s)

The second is to click on the annotation inside the Media Browser tab

Opening Annotation Documents and Files

1. Click the purple dot on the map or double-click on the pencil and notepad icon in the Media Browser to bring up the Annotation Viewer Window.
2. Select the document or image you want to open.
3. Click on Open Document or Open Images.
4. The native program of the image or document, such as Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Word, will open automatically.

There are three ways to geotag video recorded from DJI drones. The methods available vary with the different drone models, and also between FREE and PRO edition.

1. SRT Files (FREE and PRO)

Based on internal research and customer feedback the following DJI models should support recording video with the .SRT file:

• Mavic Pro
• Inspire 1 & 2
• Phantom 3 Pro
• Phantom 4 Standard (but not Phantom 4 Pro)

As long as the .SRT file is in the same directory as the video, it should prompt you to load it automatically.

2. Flight Record (FREE and PRO)

DJI Flight Record data can be pulled from the phone/tablet

3. Closed Caption (PRO only)

For certain DJI models that embeds GPS data into the video file itself as closed captioning tracks, such as the Phantom Pro 4.
