Overview #
The Text Overlay functionality is built into the Video Viewer, as seen in the image below. Text Overlay can be used to mark a place in a video using text as well as to add latitude and longitude information.
This feature is often used for marking a spot in a video. In this example, the numbers are representing the power pole for the power line that the video is following.
Creating Text Overlays #
NOTE: The VLC Decoder does not currently support text overlay. For best results, use the Windows Media Decoder.
GPS Watermark Location #
Text can be placed on the top, middle, or bottom of the video as well as left, center, or right. Choose an option from the dropdown menu to change the location of the text on your video. Depending on the location of your text, if the overlay is too many characters it may get cut off at the edge of the video.
IMPORTANT: When “Overlay Is HTML” is checked, text can only be oriented on the left side of the video.
Text Font #
There are options to change the font size, font type, and font color of the text overlay. The font size can go up to 36. The font type has a list with hundreds of different fonts to choose from. The font color can be white, black, red, green, blue, or yellow. You can personalize your text based on the video type and what the text is representing.
Latitude/Longitude Information #
If the “Include Latitude & Longitude in Overlay” box is checked, the video will have lat/long data embedded throughout the time that the text overlay is embedded.
If the “Include Latitude & Longitude in Entire Video” box is checked, the entire video will have lat/long data embedded. With this option the text overlay will still only cover the time included while the lat/long data will cover the whole video.
Video Position #
The Current Video Position will automatically populate based on the time of the video you are on when you click the Text Overlay button. You can choose to change the overlay start and end time by adding a certain number of seconds before and/or after your Current Video Position.
Remove All Existing Overlays #
This option will remove all current text overlays from the entire video. If you select this, you will lose all existing overlays that have been created. Keep in mind that every time you make a text overlay that overlaps in time with an existing overlay, you will be asked to replace the existing overlay. Only one overlay can exist on a point on the video at one time.
Export Overlaid Video #
To export Text Overlay data, right-click a thumbnail in the Media Browser and go to the “Export Overlaid Video” option. From here there are many choices for exporting text data.
Export New MP4 Video File with Custom Text Overlay (Slower) #
This will export an MP4 video file with custom text that was input using Text Overlay. This text will be watermarked on the bottom of the video along with continuous GPS data.
Export Video with Text & GPS in Closed Captioning (Faster) #
This will export a video with custom text that was input using Text Overlay and continuous GPS data embedded into the Closed Captioning.
Export Closed Caption Files >Export Text Overlay Data as SRT File #
This will export embedded text overlay data to an SRT file.
