Video & Map Screen Recording

The Video & Map Screen Recording submenu offers two different methods for making a screen recording of the geotagged video and a other map content within the software.

NOTE: The captured video will be in whatever resolution LineVision is in on that monitor.  For example, if you have a 4K monitor with LineVision maximized, the output will be 4K.  Likewise, if you are using a 1920×1080 Windows resolution for the monitor, the captured video will be 1080p (again, assuming LineVision is maximized).

The screen recording functionality is located under the Geoedit menu.

The options are described in more detail below.

NOTE: Before using either screen recording option it is usually a best practice to be sure Auto Adjust Map for Current Video Position is checked under the Options menu. This will automatically recenter the map to the platform location indicator when it moves off Map Viewer screen.

Stop Recording When Video Ends

Select this option to automatically stop the screen capture recording when your geotagged video has finished playing.

Application Recording Mode #

The Application Recording Mode option is the more “WYSIWYG” (What You See Is What You Get) option that captures the entire LineVision software interface however it is laid out and configured.  However, there are some operations in the interface that will not be captured in the recording, including clicking on the software menu items.

Upon entering Application Recording Mode, you will receive the notice below.

Recording Mode Warning.

The recording mode is ready to record when you see the Video Creation Mode is Enabled notice in the lower right corner of the Map Viewer window. Clicking the red circle will prompt you to choose a location to save the recording when it is finished. Recording will begin as soon as the location is saved. To exit the Application Recording Mode, click Close.

Structured Recording Mode #

The Structured Recording Mode is the more “structured” option for creating a simple video with map inset, side-by-side, and other layouts.

There are two primary interfaces in Structured Recording Mode.  The first is the recording screen, and the second are the video tool tips.

Upon starting Structured Recording Mode, you will be presented with an interface similar to the Video Viewer, however it will contain a yellow box around the video. This box indicates the video recording dimensions, and you may change and adjust this box to your needs.

The main interface contains the recording area, the yellow box you see once you enter Video Creation Mode.  This box represents everything that will be captured for your recording, and will include any mouse movements, map zoom, or other interface interactions while recording.  As previously mentioned, it is advised to adjust the area to your liking before starting recording as adjusting the area during recording can cause visual distortions or for your movements to not be captured properly.

To begin recording, click the red button on the Video Recording Tooltip bar on the bottom right.  When you are finished recording, click the red button again and the recording will stop.

Video Recording Tooltips

In the bottom right of the Video Creation interface, you will see a series of color-coded tooltips. Each of these are easy-access tools that let you change a number of visual aspects on your video.

Red Dot

The red dot is the basic “Start Recording” button.  Clicking this will have you select a file name and save location before it starts. Once you have selected your file destination, simple click save, and the recording will begin.

Green “M”

Clicking this icon will bring up a slider that will allow you to change the size of the map in the recording window.  If you wish to have the map displayed side by side, or want to change the overall size of the map, you can use this tool to do so.

Teal “V”

This button brings up a slider that allows you to change the map visibility.  If you decide to not have the interactive map in the recording area, you may remove it from here.

Yellow “I”

This button will toggle metadata visibility underneath the map in the recording area.  Even if your map is not visible, it will still add the GPS metadata into a box on the bottom right-hand of the recording area.

Blue “P”

This button will set the interactive map right next to the  video in the recording area.  By default, the map is not set to match the size of the video, and you may wish to place it side by side for easier comparing.

Hide Map Overlay
