Overview #
The geoDVRs can be configured at time of order to record from 1 to 4 channels of video from most IP/Ethernet cameras.
In many cases your geoDVR will arrive pre-configured for your specific camera(s). geoDVRs can usually be configured to work with most any IP camera if the feature was ordered.
NOTE: The following should be considered a general guide for configuring IP/Ethernet cameras with your geoDVR. It is always a best practice to refer to your specific video data collection device/camera documentation for details regarding your specific camera(s) configuration requirements.

Connecting IP Cameras #
Referring to the image below, attach the network cable from your video camera to the geoDVR Ethernet port or network. We recommend using CAT5e or better network cables.

Referring to the image below, the Ethernet port will be on the “back” side of the geoDVR.

IMPORTANT: The geoDVR Mini and geoDVR Gen3 both come with 2 Ethernet ports. Port 1 is set up with a static IP address (192.168.1.10) and Port 2 is set up for DHCP.
Port 1 can be used for direct communication between the geoDVR and another device (an IP camera or for data transfer) without a DHCP server.
Port 2 can be used with a DHCP network environment, with a router or a camera with DHCP server for example.
The geoDVR Gen4 has 1 Ethernet port and is configured for DHCP.
To configure your geoDVR Gen4 for direct camera to Ethernet port direct connection without DHCP:
- On your geoDVR, open the Windows Control Panel
- Open the Network and Sharing Center
- Click ‘Change Adapter settings’ on the left-hand side of the screen
- Right click on your ethernet adapter and click Properties
- Search for an item named Internet Protocol Version 4 and select it, then click Properties.
- Change the radio option from “Obtain an IP address automatically” to “Use the following IP address”
- Enter 192.168.1.10 as the IP address, 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask. You do not need to set a gateway or DNS address.
- Connect an ethernet cable from your camera to the port on the geoDVR unit
Configuring IP Cameras in the geoDVR Firmware #
Under the Options menu go to IP Camera Options and select the camera you want to configure.
This will open the IP Camera Settings.
Here you can use the default values if you are using a camera that uses these values. Some cameras use these default settings and some do not.
NOTE: It is best to refer to your cameras documentation to ensure you are using the correct values.
To configure these settings, click on Manually Enter Values
After entering the relevant values for your camera, click OK and you will return to the geoDVR view. You should now see your camera operating in the Channel you configured as seen below.
